| CG Engineering was chosen by the Tulalip Tribes of Washington to provide structural engineering services for the renovation of the historic long house. Given the historical importance of the long house building it was important that the finished construction maintained as much of the original structure as possible.
The cedar log support columns had significant dry rot and needed replacement. Originally, the columns were embedded directly into the soil. To minimize cost, the existing columns were cut just above the dry rot to save the upper portion of the column. Concrete piers with moment connections to the columns were placed while the roof structure was shored up.
Drainage along the outside of the building was improved with a French drain placed adjacent to the new stem wall for roof sheet flow. The innovative shoring system design allowed the Tribe to open the long house for salmon fishing celebrations in June.
